If You're Going To Wear Jandals This Summer…

With summer just around the corner, we’ve brought a fresh range of Archies jandals into Masterton Foot Clinic.
Now, as podiatrists, we’re realistic. When the weather gets warmer, people will wear jandals. They’re convenient, they’re cool, and they’re part of a Kiwi summer. So rather than telling everyone not to wear them, we’d prefer to help people choose a better jandal.
That’s why we stock Archies.
What do we like about Archies?

There are a few simple design features that make them different from the traditional flat jandal.
Firstly, they’re not completely flat. There is some height difference between the heel and the front of the foot. This is something we often recommend in footwear, particularly for people who find completely flat shoes aggravate their Achilles tendon, calf or plantar fascia.
They also have a contoured arch profile that is well tolerated by many people and provides more support under the foot than a traditional flat jandal.
Finally, there’s some contouring around the heel, which helps the foot sit more securely in the jandal rather than simply resting on a completely flat piece of foam.
Interestingly, these are all design principles we consider when recommending footwear and, where appropriate, when designing foot orthoses.
Are Archies right for everyone?
No shoe or jandal is perfect for everybody, and Archies won’t replace a good walking or running shoe when that’s what your feet need.
But we’re pragmatic about it.
If you’re going to wear jandals over summer, we’d rather see you wearing the best jandals you can.
For many people, Archies provide a really useful middle ground: the convenience and freedom of a jandal, with several of the footwear features that we, as podiatrists, tend to favour.
We’ve just restocked our Archies range for summer, so if you’d like to try a pair, pop into Masterton Foot Clinic and see how they feel on your feet.
