At Masterton Foot Clinic, we specialise in the provision and modification of orthopaedic footwear — offering practical, personalised solutions for those needing more than standard shoes can provide. This is a key area of our clinical service, supporting patients with complex foot and lower limb needs.

We provide access to a wide range of customisable medical-grade footwear, including supportive shoes and boots suitable for foot deformities, limb length differences, or significant instability. We also carry out specialist footwear modifications in-house to improve comfort, function, and mobility.

We prescribe orthopaedic footwear and modifications to:

  • Accommodate Foot Shape or Deformity: Including bunions, hammertoes, Charcot feet, or post-surgical changes.
  • Improve Gait & Comfort: Custom rocker soles can reduce pressure on the forefoot and improve propulsion in stiff or painful feet.
  • Stabilise the Ankle & Foot: Reinforced heel counters and buttresses help control movement in cases of ankle instability or tendon dysfunction.
  • Correct Leg Length Discrepancy: Internal or external raises can equalise limb length, reducing strain through the hips and spine.
  • Protect Vulnerable Feet: Especially in people with diabetes, arthritis, or neuropathy, where pressure relief and fit are critical.

Orthopaedic footwear and modifications are commonly recommended for:

  • Arthritis or Joint Stiffness: Where standard shoes don’t provide enough support or comfort.
  • Neurological or Muscular Conditions: Where foot control, strength, or sensation is compromised.
  • Post-Injury or Post-Surgical Recovery: When temporary or permanent footwear adaptations are needed for healing or long-term support.
  • Foot Deformities or Pressure Risk: Including diabetic foot changes, Charcot arthropathy, or fixed bony deformities.

Expert Fit, Purpose-Built Function

We work closely with leading medical-grade footwear suppliers, offering a selection of shoes that are functional without sacrificing appearance. Our clinical team performs precise modifications — including rocker soles, wedging, flares, and custom raises — based on thorough biomechanical assessment and your individual needs.

We are ACC contracted providers for orthopaedic footwear and modifications, and collaborate with GPs, orthopaedic specialists, and diabetes care teams to achieve the best outcomes.

What people say…

Receptionists. So lovely. Welcoming smiles, and very approachable. Very comfortable chairs, easy to sit and stand up. Great for people with mobility issues. My appointment time was spot on. A very professional podiatrist. Brian Hudson. I was embarrassed with my feet condition. Brian listened and put me at ease. My appointment time went fast..but so much was achieved in greatly getting rid of my feet pain. Arriving in pain 9/10 and to be reduced to a pain level 3 on leaving the clinic. The next morning my pain level is 1. It Feels so good to be nearly complete pain free after such a very long period of time.

First time visiting a podiatrist and I was so impressed by the friendly, welcoming staff! Jess was so professional, kind and clearly knows a lot about feet! She explained my treatment plan really clearly so I knew exactly what to expect. Lovely Ali at reception was gorgeous too – super helpful and friendly. I’m very happy to drive over from Palmy for my future appointments. I don’t usually write reviews but really wanted to support such a great business!

Adam has a very friendly and professional manner. The procedure on my son’s toe was well explained whilst making him feel at ease. We were seen at short notice which was very much appreciated also. Adam has given us a thorough treatment plan and followed this up with email including photos.

Adam was brilliant and is a superb listener. I walked out with hope in my heart. The receptionist was lovely and easy to talk to. Thanks!

We traveled from Taranaki several times to visit Adam and his team for treatment of toe nail fungus. They are diligent, considerate and dedicated people. Highly recommend.
