Waxeye Merino Socks: The Best NZ-Made Merino Sock For Circulation & Diabetes

Socks play a big role in our winter wardrobes, often much more than we give them credit for. Keeping our feet properly protected with quality socks made from quality materials is essential to keeping our feet warm and healthy, and for those with circulation issues or diabetes-related ailments, this is even more so. Whether you wear your socks while you are walking the dog, catching the bus to work on a cold morning, or taking a weekend stroll, high-quality socks can offer you the comfort you need to get through every season, and protect you against rubbing and blisters, prevent nasty odours, moisture build-up and a range of infections, and they can even regulate your body temperature and support the circulation to your feet by keeping them warm.

How Quality Socks Help Those With Diabetes and Circulation-Related Problems

Specialist podiatrist-designed socks are essential for supporting those that suffer from diabetes or circulation problems to avoid problematic foot complications that can develop over time. Waxeyes were designed by senior podiatrist Adam Philps, the owner of Masterton Foot Clinic here in the Wairarapa, New Zealand.

Up to 10% of our practice is made up of patients with diabetes, and a large focus is on preventing diabetes-related ailments by identifying issues early, such as narrowing leg and foot arteries, early detection of neuropathy (changes in feelings of sensation in the foot) and high-pressure loading on the soles of the foot that can lead to ulcers. Adam saw a need for a sock that lowered the risk of the sorts of problems that he often sees in patients – pressure points, ulcers, and ultimately at worst, amputation.

Waxeye Merino Socks

There are many exceptional technological advances available in the field now that help patients to take control of their diabetes and live active healthy lives, and here at the Masterton Foot Clinic, we strive to be at the cutting edge of the developments in our field. Adam designed Waxeye Socks with a local manufacturer to address a number of concerns that diabetic patients experience, and patients with circulation problems.

NZ-made Waxeyes are incredibly effective in helping to target and prevent these issues in a number of ways, and come with a multitude of other benefits:

  • Waxeye socks are seamlessfor those with diabetes or circulation problems, anything that causes rubbing against the foot or toes can be a trigger for ulcers or injuries, so Waxeye socks have been designed without seams so that the risk of rubbing is greatly reduced.
  • Waxeye socks are made from merino woolwe have 125,000 sweat glands on the bottom of each foot, and extra moisture can cause painful blisters, nasty odours, and a range of  fungal infections, and those with diabetes or circulation problems are even more prone to experiencing these ailments. Waxeye merino socks help to keep feet safe from this harm – they are lightweight, naturally odour-resistant, and keep your feet dry while insulating them to keep them warm. Merino wool is also breathable, repels water, and regulates its own temperature, so your feet will stay warm in winter and cool in summer. The other attractive feature of merino wool is that it does not cause scratching and itching, as other inferior and cheaply made woollen socks may do, and it’s also incredibly durable.
  • Waxeye socks have a unique elastic-weave: Adam wanted to create a sock that protected his patients’ feet and legs as gently as possible, and did not leave any indentations on their feet or horizontal lines on their calves. For those with diabetes or circulation problems, fluid can often pool at the line of a seam. So unlike regular socks, Waxeyes were designed to avoid this with a unique elastic weave and longitudinal merino knit pattern that runs longways rather than horizontally, which aids circulation by limiting fluid retention, encouraging your body to continue to carry out healthy fluid return.

No matter your individual health concerns or foot conditions, here at the Masterton Foot Clinic we would love to help you find the perfect socks for your needs. Your feet are an integral part of helping you maintain a full and active lifestyle, and it’s our passion to help people achieve their goals and lead the life they wish to live. What people say…

Receptionists. So lovely. Welcoming smiles, and very approachable. Very comfortable chairs, easy to sit and stand up. Great for people with mobility issues. My appointment time was spot on. A very professional podiatrist. Brian Hudson. I was embarrassed with my feet condition. Brian listened and put me at ease. My appointment time went fast..but so much was achieved in greatly getting rid of my feet pain. Arriving in pain 9/10 and to be reduced to a pain level 3 on leaving the clinic. The next morning my pain level is 1. It Feels so good to be nearly complete pain free after such a very long period of time.

First time visiting a podiatrist and I was so impressed by the friendly, welcoming staff! Jess was so professional, kind and clearly knows a lot about feet! She explained my treatment plan really clearly so I knew exactly what to expect. Lovely Ali at reception was gorgeous too – super helpful and friendly. I’m very happy to drive over from Palmy for my future appointments. I don’t usually write reviews but really wanted to support such a great business!

Adam has a very friendly and professional manner. The procedure on my son’s toe was well explained whilst making him feel at ease. We were seen at short notice which was very much appreciated also. Adam has given us a thorough treatment plan and followed this up with email including photos.

Adam was brilliant and is a superb listener. I walked out with hope in my heart. The receptionist was lovely and easy to talk to. Thanks!

We traveled from Taranaki several times to visit Adam and his team for treatment of toe nail fungus. They are diligent, considerate and dedicated people. Highly recommend.
